The second leg of the 2023 Seaoil Radical Challenge Philippines recently unfurled at Batangas Racing Circuit despite less-than-ideal weather conditions.
From 22 to 24 September, the reigning champion Iñigo Anton left no question marks, securing victory in all three races.
The competition showcased young talents like Anton, Joaquin Garrido and Miguel Quiñones battling for lead positions. Series newcomer Juancho Brobio also made a notable entry, clinching a podium spot in his Seaoil-liveried No. 5 SR1 during his inaugural race.
Anton, eager to retain his championship title in 2023, found renewed form this weekend after an unremarkable season opener.
The driver of the black-and-red #33 SR1 clinched pole position with lap time of one minute and 38.76 seconds during Saturday’s qualifying rounds. This time was so quick that it left his nearest competitor, lagging by a substantial 2.088 seconds per lap.
Capitalizing on this momentum, Anton led the first race from start to finish.
The 19-year-old talent kept his rivals at bay, crossing the finish line a substantial 9.899 seconds ahead of PartsPro Racing’s Garrido, who secured second place. Miguel Quiñones of DRQ Motorsports rounded out the top three.
The weekend’s second race featured a reverse grid start, allowing rookie Brobio the pole position for the 12-lap event. Despite the advantageous start, Brobio failed to make it to the podium.
Meanwhile, Anton not only captured another first-place finish but also set a new Radical SR1 track record with a blistering 1:38.605 lap time. Garrido and Quiñones claimed the second and third spots, respectively.
During the final race on Sunday afternoon, Anton once again illustrated his racing mastery. Starting from pole position, he cruised to another straightforward win, thus completing a weekend hat trick.
Garrido settled for second place yet again, while Brobio notched his first-ever podium finish in the Radical Challenge Philippines, beating Quiñones to third.
