TNT Tropang Giga is at a loss as to when star scoring guard Mikey Williams is going to report for training camp, concurrent team manager and head coach Jojo Lastimosa said yesterday.
Lastimosa said that Williams has a live contract with the squad and that while they are in contact with him, they are unsure exactly when the Filipino-American dribbler is arriving from the United States.
The Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup opens shop on 5 November.
Lastimosa said it was Chot Reyes who is taking care of the Williams situation.
“Mikey is under contract until 2025,” wrote Lastimosa in a Viber message to DAILY TRIBUNE.
Although he has yet to rejoin the team, the Tropang Giga’s top playmaker and point-producer is reportedly been working out in the US.
Turning 32 late this month, Williams put on an impressive display of skills the last time he suited up for TNT.
A product of California State-Fullerton, Williams, listed at 6-feet-2, averaged 22 points a game, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in lending a hand to the Tropang Giga’s title win over Barangay Ginebra during the Governors’ Cup last April.
Williams, a former National Basketball Association D-League standout, led TNT to two championships in the two seasons he had played with the Tropang Giga.
