The Philippine women’s futsal team hopes to spread awareness of the sport when it plays in the Philippine Football Federation Tri Nation Futsal Invitational 2023 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium from 18 to 22 October.
Philippine head coach Vic Hermans said having constant tournaments like this will help in growing the sport to the masses and gauge their skills against tough opponents.
The Philippines will face New Zealand and Indonesia in this event with admission being free of charge.
“I think there is a big chance here and I learned that they love this game. What we must do is promote the game,” Hermans said.
“For the longest time, we had good women’s basketball and volleyball teams. The Philippines can have a good women’s football and futsal team. What we must do is to have many projects to have the best players go for the national team.”
That will take some time but we’re on the way and to see where we are now with this young team.”
The tournament will run in a single round robin with the top team going directly to the championship round.
