Golf’s finest sees action in $3-M LPGA tourney

For the first time in six years, the LPGA Tour swings by Malaysia for the inaugural Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club on 26 to 29 October.

The 78-player field is stacked with major champions and LPGA Tour winners that will be battling it out for a $3-million purse in Kuala Lumpur.

Six of the top 10 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, including KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner Ruoning Yin, US Women’s Open champion Allisen Corpuz and Amundi Evian Championship winner Celine Boutier, are set to tee it up.

It will also feature a slew of Malaysian players including LPGA Tour veteran Kelly Tan and Epson Tour winner Natasha Andrea Oon.

The Philippines will have Dottie Ardina who snagged the spot via sponsor invitation.

Also in the roster are 18 of the 22 LPGA Tour Winners this year.

They are Pajaree Anannarukarn (Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play presented by MGM Rewards); Celine Boutier (LPGA Drive On Championship, The Amundi Evian Championship, FREED GROUP Women’s Scottish Open presented by Trust Golf); Ashleigh Buhai (ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer); Allisen Corpuz (US Women’s Open); Linn Grant (Dana Open); Hannah Green (JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro);

Brooke Henderson (Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions); Megan Khang (CPKC Women’s Open); Grace Kim (LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei); Cheyenne Knight (Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational); Jin Young Ko (HSBC Women’s World Championship, Cognizant Founders Cup); Leona Maguire (Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give);

Alexa Pano (ISPS Handa World Invitational); Hae Ran Ryu (Walmart NW Arkansas Championships presented by P&G); Chanettee Wannasaen (Portland Classic); Angel Yin (Buick LPGA Shanghai); Ruoning Yin (DIO Implant LA Open, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship); and Rose Zhang (Mizuho Americas Open)

Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings Top 10 will also join the mix like Ruoning Yin (No. 2), Jin Young Ko (No. 3), Celine Boutier (No. 5), Nelly Korda (No. 6), Lydia Ko (No. 9) and Allisen Corpuz (No. 10)

Alyaa Abdulghany, Ashley Lau, Jing Xuen Ng, Natasha Andrea Oon, Kelly Tan, Jeneath Wong makes it via Malaysian connection.
