Fresh from its conquest in Thailand last week, the Philippine junior golf team is now putting the 2023 Selangor International Junior Golf Championship on its crosshairs starting Friday.
The squad that swept the Singha Thailand Worlds boys’ and girls’ team titles will vie for even more honors against players from at least 10 countries.
Reese Ng, Alethea Gaccion, Jacob Cajita and Bobe Salahog — who all played pivotal roles in the Singha success — will once again don the country’s colors in the three-round meet at the Seri Selangor Golf Club.
Joining them are Suzuki Shinichi, Edison Tabalin, Grace Quintanilla and Anya Cedo in the four-to-play, three-to-count championship.
The National Golf Association of the Philippines, which sent the team members, is hoping their can score a “back-to-back” sweep in Malaysia.
The Selangor meet also offers pathway to the Selangor Masters slated the following week. The champion in the boys’ division automatically makes it to the pro tournament.
Among the countries sending entries to the competitions for 12 to 18 years old are South Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Last week, Salahog, Cajita and Miko Granada grabbed the boys’ team crown, while Gaccion, Ng and Lia Duque lorded it over the girls’ division at Royal Hua Hin Golf Club.
