Former Most Valuable Player Willie Miller became the latest addition to the star-studded coaching staff of Converge in the Philippine Basketball Association.
FiberXers governor Archen Cayabyab said Miller’s extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the game makes him an asset to the formidable bench crew headed by Aldin Ayo.
The 46-year-old Miller is a four-time PBA champion and a two-time MVP in a colorful 14-year career. After his retirement, he didn’t stay away from the game as he joined other former PBA legends in playing exhibition matches around the county while coaching grassroots basketball.
“After his playing career, Willie has been passionate about coaching at the grassroots level. It’s really his passion,” Cayabyab said.
“So, when we got to talk to him and asked if he could be part of our coaching staff, he didn’t hesitate to say yes to us.”
Interestingly, Miller is the second former MVP to join the Converge coaching staff. The FiberXers also have two-time MVP Danny Ildefonso as big man coach.
The combination of their championship experience and coaching expertise is a testament to the FiberXers’ commitment in nurturing young talent and achieving greater success in the PBA.
Miller, who played with Ayo and Cayabyab during his college career at Letran College, will take on the role as mentor within the coaching staff, where he will impart his basketball wisdom to the rising stars.
He will be guiding the development of promising young talents like Schonny Winston, Alex Stockton and Mac Tallo, helping them reach their full potential.
“We’re thrilled to have Miller join our coaching staff at Converge,” Converge team manager Jacob Lao said.
“His unparalleled experience and exceptional skills as a guard in the PBA will be a game-changer for our young talents. With his guidance, our guards are poised for remarkable growth and development.”
