Jose Rizal University solidified its hold of the fourth spot after carving out a 77-64 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

The Heavy Bombers unleashed a 14-1 run that broke a 63-all deadlock to finish off the Generals and hike their win-loss record to 10-5 as the race to the Final Four tightens up.

Marwin Dionisio led JRU with 16 points and eight rebounds with Jonathan Medina and Joshua Guiab backing him up with 11 points each with six and 10 rebounds, respectively.

“We just stuck with the system. Our communication is there and coach always told us it always has to be there,” Dionisio said.

Vince Sarmiento added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Heavy Bombers.

Nat Cosejo and JP Maguliano had 12 points each as the Generals sank to an 8-8 record in seventh place.

In the first game, Letran College broke a seven-game losing skid at the expense of Arellano University, 67-58.

Kobe Monje got 13 points, three rebounds and four assists as the Knights improved to a 2-14 record but remained at the cellar.

Joshua Abastillas scored nine points as the Chiefs remained at ninth with a 2-14 record.
