Kyt Jimenez is excited to play with his idol, Terrence Romeo, at San Miguel Beer in the Commissioner’s Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
Jimenez, the former University of Perpetual Help star who drew millions of social media followers due to his impressive playmaking ability, said he couldn’t wait to man the Beermen backcourt with Romeo in the ongoing season-opening conference.
“I’m very excited,” said Jimenez, who was on the Beermen’s active roster when it battled NLEX late Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time and now, it’s happening,” Jimenez’s inclusion in the Beermen’s camp came right in time.
After being drafted with the 76th overall pick in the recent Rookie Draft, the 26-year-old Jimenez had to play for the General Santos City Warriors in the South Division semifinals of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Fifth Season.
But when the Warriors were ousted, Jimenez was finally given the green light to join the Beermen, which came at a perfect time since he is in peak condition.
“I already practiced with them three times then I was able to rejoin a few days ago, so I was able to practice with them before our first game,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez added that he doesn’t have much expectations as it was overshadowed by the happiness of finally playing in the PBA, especially with Romeo as his mentor.
“Now it’s happening,” he added.
Team manager Gee Abanilla said Jimenez’s inclusion in their roster was because of his skills and not because of the number of his social media followers, which had already soared to 300,000.
“He can play. Now, he’ll have to prove that he belongs in the PBA. It’s all up to him,” Abanilla said.
