Alex Eala barged into the semifinal of the W40 Petange women’s singles after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands last Friday (Manila time).
Eala, 18, worked her magic in one hour and 21 minutes to beat her foe and advance to the next round.
The Asian Games bronze medalist will face German netter Anna-Lena Friedsam in the semis in hopes of making it to the final.
Meanwhile, her doubles stint comes to a close after she and Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez kneeled to Great Brotain’s Ali Collins and Dutch netter Isabella Haverlag, 2-6, 6-7.
This is Eala’s final tournament of the year which was highlighted by two ITF titles in Yecla, Spain, and in Roehampton, Great Britain.
She also pocketed two bronze medals in the 19th Asiad in Hangzhou, China in the women’s singles and the mixed doubles when she teamed up with Francis Alcantara.
