The Philippine Football Federation had invited a Filipino-Spanish striker from the second division in Spain to the training camp of the national women’s team in the United States.
Alexia Blanco of CA Osasuna Femenino will be joining the Filipinas’ tryouts at Great Park in Los Angeles set from 27 November to 6 December.
While Blanco had scored two goals in two league appearances this season, Osasuna is currently in fourth place with a 5-2-2 win-draw-loss record.
Osasuna hopes to do better than its fourth-place finish last season and earn promotion to Liga F where it will face the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
The Filipinas are looking for potential stars following their historic year that saw them winning in their debut of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and reaching the quarterfinal of the 19th Asian Games.
If successful, the 23-year-old footballer will join the squad in future tournaments such as the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship and the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup, a qualifier for the World Cup.
She will also bolster the Filipinas’ attacking options that boasts the likes of Sarina Bolden, Quinley Quezada, Katrina Guillou and Chandler McDaniel.
Blanco, fondly known as “Alexia Jr.,” was thankful for the opportunity given to her to represent the country.
“I’m very happy to be able to make this dream come true. It is a pleasure and a source of pride for me,” Blanco said in a social media post.
