Mark Lester Ragay, Mark Anthon Polo and Vincent Ventura emerged with a gold medal in duilian to tow the Philippines to a seventh-place finish the 16th World Wushu Championships in Texas recently.
Ragay, Polo and Ventura outshone foes from Brunei and Spain to underscore the Filipinos’ one gold, four silvers and a bronze medal in the most prestigious wushu event in the world.
Earlier, wushu poster girl Agatha Wong clinched the silver in her pet event, taijiquan while 32nd Southeast Asian Games medalist Russel Diaz pocketed the bronze medal in the 48-kilogram sanda event.
Capping the Philippines’ impressive campaign were other sanda warriors World Cup gold medalist Arnel Mandal, who bagged the silver medal in the men’s 52-kg class; World Combat Games silver medalist Clemente Tabugara, who clinched the silver medal in the men’s 65-kg category; and Jennifer Kilapo, who settled for the silver medal in the women’s 48-kg event.
