BAGUIO CITY — A huge advantage is not yet an assurance for a victory, especially playing at the tough Baguio Country Club par-61 layout.
Camp John Hay Golf Club-1 captain John Marasigan downplayed the thought of winning despite leading by 31 with 18 holes left in the Fil-A division in the 73rd Januarius Fil-Am
Golf Invitational seniors’ competition here yesterday.
“Job is not done. We still need to compete and have a good game at BCC in the final round. No lead is safe there,” Marasigan said.
Bayani Tecson used his course knowledge to the hilt and finished with an 8-over-par 69 worth 28 points at BCC and got ample support from Villamor Bumanglag (25), Marasigan (22) and Dai Tsuchiya (22) for 97 and 318 total.
Down by 15 in the first 36 holes, Silicon Valley Golfers Link-1 (287) failed to chop off some of the lead and its players could only produce an 81 on the 27 of Ramon Ocampo, 21 of Cesar Cabang, 20 of Henry Amador and 13 of Ed Cabanayan.
CJHGC could make it a double celebration as its squad continues to dominate the Am-A division. Pol Mayos (27), Manny Solis (27), Charles Baguilat (24) and Mars Garcia (22) accounted for the team’s 100 and 267 at the CJH course.
Rudy Lockey sparkled for 30 markers to pace Baguio Blue Bloods Seniors (106-256) but his teammates Won San Moon, Materno Luspian and former Mayor Mauricio Domogan would need to step up big in the hopes of turning things around.
Over at the CJH course, MCG-Mimosa 210 (98-112) was ahead by three over Baguio Country Club-I 207 (108-99) in the Fil-B division. A1-MGC 162 (80-82) extended its lead to 14 in the Am side against Team Melbourne-Australia 148 (67-81).
