Games today:
(Smart Araneta Coliseum)
4 p.m. — Terrafirma vs Phoenix
8 p.m. — San Miguel vs Rain or Shine
Rain or Shine seeks to finally end its string of misfortune as it parades a new import when it battles San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Game time is at 8 p.m. with the Elasto Painters bringing in a rebounding demon in Demetrius Treadwell in a bid to finally barge into the win column after dropping their first four matches in the season-opening conference.
Prior to the Painters-Beermen collision, Phoenix Super LPG will shoot for a solo second place when it tangles with Terrafirma in the first game at 4 p.m.
Magnolia remains at the helm with 4-0 win-loss card while Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Meralco and Phoenix are all tied at the second spot with 3-1 entering the halfway mark of the eliminations.
Listed at 6-foot-7, Treadwell has a reputation of being a rebounding machine during his stint in Israeli National League in which he led Hapoel Gilboa Galil to the 2016 title with 20.2 points and 10.2 rebounds in 35 games.
He also competed in Korea and Lithuania before returning to Israel to reinforce Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan with averages of 12.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
Aside from rebounding, Treadwell is also a solid defensive player, averaging 1.6 steals per game while also dishing out 3.2 assists per game in his last stint in Israel.
At Rain or Shine, the 32-year-old Treadwell is expected to provide the defensive muscles and shore up the frontcourt, something that its former import in DaJuan Summers failed to do in their first four outings.
Summers was replaced after four games and although he has a decent offensive game with an average of 24.8 points per game, he only averaged 9.3 rebounds per game and was hardly a factor on the defensive end as well.
