Filipina netter Alex Eala remained perched at the No. 190th spot in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
The 18-year-old Eala maintained her rank and stayed in the Top 200 despite losing in the final of the W40 Petange women’s singles tournament in Luxembourg last Monday.
Eala, a Rafael Nadal Academy graduate lost 1-6, 5-7 against Oceane Dodin of France in the W40 Petange final for her last match of the year.
The teen sensation had a fruitful season including winning a pair of professional titles. She ruled the W25 Yecla in Spain last June and the W25 Roehampton in England last August.
Eala won two bronze medals in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last September. She placed third in the women’s singles and in the mixed doubles with Francis Alcantara.
The two-time Junior Grand Slam champion is set to be honored in the 3rd Siklab Youth Sports Awards on 4 December at Market! Market! Activity Center in Taguig City.
She will be joined by gymnast Karl Andrew Yulo, World Combat Games champion Alyssa Kylie Mallari of muay thai and weightlifting world youth champion Prince Keil delos Santos.
Asian Games pole vaulter EJ Obiena will be feted as Sports Idol while ASEAN Para Games double gold medalist Ariel Alegarbes of swimming is the recipient of the Para Youth Star award.
