BAGUIO CITY — A focused and determined Januarius Private Equity-1 squad is aiming to take a step closer to the title as third round action in the Fil-Championship shifts to Camp John Hay Golf Club today.
Ayon Sanchez, Jet Mathay, Kirby Lachica, Terence Macatangay and Ray Sangil produced a two-day total of 250 points for Januarius at the Baguio Country Club and will head to the longer par-69 CJH layout, with its sleek greens, with a six-point lead against Eastridge-1 and Manila Southwoods-1.
Eastridge-1’s young guns pooled in 128 for 244 while Manila Southwoods-1 is at 243 after a 125.
“The team is raring to go. The guys are looking forward to a great round at CJH,” Januarius team manager Paolo Cagalingan said.
Eastridge-2 leads in the Am-Championship after firing 281. Januarius-2 and Manila Southwoods-2 are locked in for second with 252. Valley Golf Mamamboys is fourth with 114-234.
“For as long as there are still holes to play, we will continue giving it our best,” says Southwoods skipper Thirdy Escaño, whose boys are looking to carry on Southwoods’ winning streak to nine straight wins.
However, not even a huge lead is ever safe at the Baguio Country Club, which has been a tough course even to the best golfers through the years.
Meanwhile, Camp John Hay and Baguio Country Club are expected to engage in a friendly but intense battle for the Fil-B crown after both teams finished tied for the lead with 292 points after three rounds on Friday.
