Kaya FC – Iloilo won over Davao Aguilas – UMak FC on penalties 1-1 (4-3) in the 2023 Copa Paulino Alcantara final at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium Saturday evening.
This is the club’s third Copa title, the most by any club since the tournament’s inception in 2018.
Kaya head coach Colum Curtis also first title with the team since joining last August.
Yannick Tuason opened the scoreboard with a header in the 45th minute.
Arnel Amita then stole the ball from Davao keeper Dini Tato Ouattara and slotted a goal in the 65th minute to equalize the match at 1-1.
With no one scoring in full time and in extra time, the match went on a penalty shootout.
Tied at 3-3 in the shootout, Justin Baas scored the decisive goal to clinch the title.
Kaya also dominated the individual awards as Abou Sy won the Golden Boot award after netting 10 goals while Quincy Kammeraad took home the Golden Glove honors.
More Kaya players shone as Simone Rota was named the tournament’s Best Defender and Daizo Horikoshi was hailed as the Most Valuable Player.
Bugas bagged the Best Midfielder honors and was the lone individual awardee from Davao.
