California-based Filipino Rey Danseco has been appointed as one of the three judges for the World Boxing Council super-lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Regis Prograis that takes place Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

The other officials getting assignments were Mike Ross and Fernando Villareal, all from the United States. Jack Reiss, also from the US, will be the third man in the ring.

A former award-winner for the coveted WBC Judge of the Year honors, Danseco has traveled the world judging big fights put up by the world’s premier promoters.

He has been to Russia, Australia, Mexico, Canada, England, Japan and in the US, working the fights of Tyson Fury, Ryan Garcia, Canelo Alvarez, Amir Khan, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Bernard Hopkins.

“Even though I have judged many big fights, I can’t help but feel nervous heading int another assignment. I am scared of committing a big mistake that would embarrass not just me but my country as well,” said Danseco, who hails from Calauag, Quezon.

Danseco is fast moving to his targeted 50th world title fight appointment.

“Lots of pressure and I can feel it on my shoulders,” said Danseco, whose links with the Mexico-based WBC began during the reign of Jose Sulaiman.

Sulaiman passed away in 2014 after leading the WBC from 1975 until his death and his son Mauricio succeeded him.
