Incheon United dealt Kaya FC-Iloilo a stinging 3-1 defeat to leave the Philippine side winless in six outings in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The setback also prevented Kaya FC-Iloilo from earning points in the biggest Asian club competition.
Park Seung Go scored first for Incheon in the 12th minute with a screamer before Choi Woo Jin added another in the 25th minute.
Simone Rota slotted home a header in the 53rd minute to keep the Lions in the game.
However, Kim Doh Yeok converted a penalty in the 90th minute to secure the win for Incheon.
The South Korean club finished the group stages with a 4-0-2 win-draw-loss record and shares the same record with Yokohama F. Marinons of Japan and China’s Shandong Taishan.
For Kaya head coach Colum Curtis, he still held his team high for going all out in their stint.
“Of course they’re sad but they played well. I’m proud of the players on how they adjusted tactically,” said Curtis, who coached his final game with Kaya in the year.
Meanwhile, Stallion Laguna FC suffered a 3-0 loss to the Central Coast Mariners in the AFC Cup group stage game at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.
Marco Tullo scored a brace in the 23rd and 79th minute with Christian Theoharus making his presence felt in the 64th minute.
The Australian Club topped Group G with a 4-1-1 record and is off to the ASEAN zonal semifinals.
Stallion, meanwhile, finished the group with a 0-1-5 record in fourth place.
