Golf’s crowd-pleasing event, the PNC Championships, goes underway Friday (Saturday in Manila) with famous players teaming up with their family in what is termed as the “annual hit-and-giggle” tournament.

No less than Tiger Woods and son Charlie will show their wares in the 36-hole meet, engaging 19 other teams at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

Vijay Singh and Qass Singh claimed a two-shot win last year and will defend their title over the weekend.

Gary Player and his son, Jordan, as well as Jordan Spieth and his father, Shawn, won’t see action this time.

They will be replaced by Steve Stricker and his daughter, Izzi; and Retief Goosen and his son, Leo.

Also competing are Stewart and Reagan Cink; John Daly and John Daly Jr.; David Duval and Brady Duval; Nick Faldo and Matthew Faldo; Jim Furyk and Tanner Furyk; Padraig Harrington and Ciaran Harrington; Nelly Korda and Petr Korda; Matt Kuchar and Cameron Kuchar; Bernhard Langer and Jason Langer; Tom Lehman and Sean Lehman; Justin Leonard and Luke Leonard; Mark O’Meara and Sean O’Meara; Nick Price and Greg Price; Annika Sorenstam and Will McGee; Justin Thomas and Mike Thomas; Lee Trevino and Daniel Trevino.

Format is a two-person scramble team event.

The 84-year-old Trevino, calls the PNC Championship his “major.” He’s played in every edition dating to the inaugural event in 1995 when 10 major winners gathered with their sons.

“It’s like people trying to qualify for Augusta,” Trevino, winner of four majors, said.
