The Philippine Sports Commission is finding ways to make sure this year’s Batang Pinoy and the Philippine National Games will be a rousing success.
PSC chairperson Richard “Dickie” Bachmann said he is getting feedback from members to make sure they can make adjustments when the tournament begins today.
Stars such as Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz of Weightlifting, 19th Asian Games silver medalist Eumir Marcial of boxing gymnastics prodigies Carlos and Karl Eldrew Yulo and two-time Junior Grand Slam winner Alex Eala of tennis are slated to grace the opening ceremony at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“I think what our staff is doing is as a group, what are the problems we could face and be prepared for a Plan B. I asked older PSC employees who handled Batang Pinoy and PNG what we missed,” Bachmann said.
“The kids have been waiting for an event to showcase their skills so we’re just giving that. If they win, that’s also a good Christmas gift for them.”
The tournament runs from 17 to 22 December.
Baguio City will be aiming to defend its Batang Pinoy crown while every local government unit will be looking to take down Cebu City for the PNG overall championship.
