Kai Sotto’s transfer from Hiroshima to Yokohama should give him more playing time, his father Ervin yesterday said.
“He’s still with Hiroshima now, but he’ll go to Yokohama on Monday,” wrote the elder Sotto on Viber as his son gets ready to hook up with his new squad.
While playing for the Dragonflies, Sotto saw action in just 24 games and averaged 19 minutes and posting 8.9 points, six rebounds and 1.3 blocks per outing.
What Hiroshima could not give him — lots of playing time — Yokohama is going to provide.
“I think he can be utilized more at Yokohama,” added the elder Sotto.
Before playing for the Dragonflies, Sotto took part in the National Basketball Association Draft but wound up undrafted.
Still, he got invited to play for the Orlando Magic in the Summer League before being inserted onto the Gilas roster for the FIBA World Cup a few months ago.
The second- generation cager also played for the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League Australia, but hardly saw action.
In two seasons playing for the 36ers starting in 2021, he posted averages of 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 15 minutes of playing time in his first year.
His minutes event went down the next year and averaged 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12 minutes.
