World-rated super-bantamweight Carl Jammes Martin fought like Manny Pacquiao late Monday night and stopped the durable Thai Chaiwat Buatkeathok in the sixth round at the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque.
Standing toe-to-toe with Buatkrathok, Martin finally put away his iron-chinned rival with a vicious right hook to the body, forcing the referee to pull the plug.
Though Buatkrathok beat the count, the third man on the ring decided it would be even more brutal if he allows him to absorb additional punishment from Martin’s fast and furious fists.
The victory raised Martin’s record to 23-0 with18 knockouts but what was important was the validation of his contractual agreement with Sean Gibbons’ MP Promotions.
Gibbons, who was at ringside, has lined up 3-4 fights in the United States for Martin, a 24-year-old from Ifugao who should see his ranking get a big boost in the next ratings that will be released both by the World Boxing Organization and the International Boxing Federation.
Martin’s latest signing officially makes him a Pacquiao fighter and he joins the likes of Mark Magsayo, Jerwin Ancajas, Eumir Marcial and Marlon Tapales in the growing stable.
