Akari is open to tapping another foreign coach after parting ways with Brazilian mentor Jorge Souza de Brito last week.
The Chargers are still looking for the perfect replacement for De Brito, who resigned from his post after four conferences, who will push the promising club to greater heights in the Premier Volleyball League.
The club announced last 14 December that it officially accepted the national women’s volleyball team mentor’s resignation and will make an announcement on Akari’s new direction.
“The team owner is still looking into it,” a source told Daily Tribune.
The source added that Akari is also considering looking at hiring another foreign mentor whose system will be a perfect fit for the club composed of a good mix of young and veteran players.
“The owner wants to get the best coach available so that’s a possibility,” the source said.
The Chargers, who joined the PVL last year in the season-ending Reinforced Conference, shored up their lineup by acquiring new blue-chip recruits in middle blocker Fifi Sharma and ace libero Justine Jazareno hooking up with prolific scorer Faith Nisperos and grizzled veteran Dindin Santiago-Manabat.
However, the squad fell short of expectations with only five wins in 11 games, good for just seventh place in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference.
Meanwhile, the same source mentioned that the management will be keeping Akari’s sister team Nxled Japanese head coach Taka Minowa.
“For sure he will stay because he did a great job with the team in its debut tournament. The current players like him and he’s an asset for other players who are interested in joining the team,” according to the source.
Minowa, husband of Filipina volleyball star Jaja Santiago, steered the expansion team to a ninth place finish in the 12-club season-ending tournament.
