June Mar Fajardo is playing in a different arena while nursing an injury that bars him from seeing action for San Miguel Beer in the Commissioner’s Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
The 6-foot-10 Fajardo said he is running his “small business” to fight boredom and test his entrepreneurial skills, which could be his fallback once his Hall of Fame PBA career formally comes to a close.
So far, his online shop — Kraken Apparel PH — had already gained massive followers on social media with no less than his San Miguel teammates Marcio Lassiter, Rodney Brondial and Chris Ross endorsing it.
“I created an online shop called Kraken Apparel. I have a friend who has been creating shirts so we decided to put up an apparel business,” Fajardo said.
“When I returned from playing, I became busy again and I wasn’t able to take care of it. But now that I am still injured, I want to reactivate it. It’s just a small business but somehow, it helps me fight boredom while testing my skills as an entrepreneur.”
Due to a fractured finger, Fajardo will not be around when the Beermen battles the red-hot Phoenix Super LPG on Christmas Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It’s going to be the first time for Fajardo to skip the league’s holiday spectacle as he was also sidelined by a fractured tibia when the Beermen played on Christmas four years ago.
“I am still recovering,” the 6-foot-10 Fajardo said.
“I can only join practice in January so I am just doing personal workouts this time.”
Fajardo admitted that his latest injury is a major blow.
Before being sidelined, he played non-stop basketball in the PBA before joining Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 19th Asian Games.
“I was playing non-stop for about a year,” the 34-year-old Fajardo said.
“Maybe this is the way my body is telling me to stop, that’s why I got injured. I don’t know if I can call it a blessing in disguise, but somehow, I got the much-deserved rest.”
