Japanese mentor Taka Minowa has been appointed as director of volleyball operations of both Nxled and Akari in the coming season of the Premier Volleyball League.
Akari made the announcement, saying that the husband of volleyball star Jaja Santiago will run their volleyball program following an impressive performance in the recent All-Filipino Conference.
With Minowa calling the shots, the Chameleons finished at ninth place with a 4-7 win-loss record in their PVL debut. He, however, will remain as the tactician of the Chameleons.
“Following an impressive coaching debut in the Premier Volleyball League, Nxled Chameleons’ head coach Taka Minowa will now serve as the Director of Volleyball Operations for both his squad and the Akari Chargers,” Akari said in a statement.
“Coach Minowa will oversee the volleyball program of the sister teams starting the next PVL season, but he will continue as the chief tactician of the Chameleons.”
Akari added that they will soon appoint an interim coach who will replace Brazilian mentor Jorge Souza de Brito.
“Furthermore, an interim Chargers head coach will be announced soon, along with some new assistant coaches for Nxled and Akari,” Akari stated.
“With this move, Akari management hopes for the Chargers and Chameleons to ascend the ladder and contend for a title when the new PVL season kicks off in February next year.”
Akari concluded the All-Filipino Conference at seventh place with a 5-6 record.
