After falling short in Batang Pinoy, Pasig City bounced back and reigned supreme in the 2023 Philippine National Games.
The Pasigueños plucked 42 gold, 39 silver and 47 bronze medals to dethrone powerhouse Cebu and emerge victorious in the prestigious event that aims to discover future members of the national team.
No less than Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto congratulated the athletes, who clinched their first overall title after five long years of waiting.
“Congrats to our athletes, coaches, and staff who worked hard to get these results. This only inspires us to even further improve our grassroots sports program,” Sotto said.
Justin Santo Macuring led Pasig’s gold rush after ruling the men’s U20 5,000-meter walk while swimmer Reiniel Francis Lagman grabbed the silver medal in the 18&over men’s 200m freestyle.
Mandaluyong City came in at second place with a 35-42-49 tally with the squad of Francoise Marie Magpily and Ma. Elayza Villa dominated the women’s rapid and blitz events in chess.
Baguio City, which won this year’s Batang Pinoy, came in at third place with a 35-41-49 tally.
