Eala, partner reach Canberra semis

Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and Brazilian partner Laura Pigossi advanced to the WTA 125 Workday Canberra International doubles semifinals via walkover on Thursday, 4 January.

Eala and Pigossi were supposed to play the fourth seed pair of Anna Bondar and Celine Naef in the quarterfinals.

The unseeded Eala and Pigossi will battle in the next round the survivor between top seeds Nao Hibino and Irina Khromacheva and the Australian duo of Kaylah McPhee and Astra Sharma.

Eala and Pigossi reached the quarterfinals after downing Italian Sara Errani and Mexican Renata Zarazu, 5-7, 6-0, 10-6, last Wednesday.
