A healthier Kim Kianna Dy hopes to live up to expectations under the wing of PLDT come the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season next month.
Dy completed the trifecta of the High Speed Hitters’ key acquisitions from the disbanded F2 Logistics along with setter Kim Fajardo and Majoy Baron to shore up their roster heading into the season-opening tournament beginning 17 February.
With the trio onboard and reuniting with ex-De La Salle University and Cargo Movers teammate Mika Reyes, the future looks bright for the still searching for a podium finish PLDT side.
Dy is thrilled to get back into action after missing the entire 2023 2nd All-Filipino Conference following a knee injury she suffered in last year’s mid-season Invitational Conference.
“Knowing that there’s still so much to learn inspires me to thrive and work harder. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, but I hope we can meet the expectations set for us here in PLDT,” the prized opposite spiker said after the club formally introduced her as the newest High Speed Hitter on Sunday.
The 28-year-old winger complements high-scoring open spiker Savannah Davison, forming a formidable 1-2 punch for PLDT.
Dy, who helped La Salle win three University Athletic Association of the Philippines titles, is also excited to step out of her comfort zone and play in a new system under head coach Rald Ricafort.
She has spent all her seven-year club career with F2 Logistics.
“Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary sometimes. But at the same time, that’s when you realize that you can learn so much more from new coaches and teammates,” the inaugural Philippine National Volleyball Federation Most Valuable Player said.
The High Speed Hitters have shown great potential in the past two seasons but lacked the firepower to compete with the PVL’s top teams but with the key additions, PLDT is tipped as a dark horse for the coming competition.
PLDT finished fifth place with a 7-4 win-loss record in the 2nd AFC to end the 2023 season.
