University of Perpetual Help System Dalta formally hired Barangay Ginebra San Miguel assistant coach Olsen Racela as its new head coach ahead of Season 100 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament.
Altas team Manager Anton Tamayo welcomed Racela as he witnessed the former Far Eastern University tactician sign his contract in their Las Piñas campus.
Also present were former Perpetual head coach Myk Saguiguit, NCAA management committee representative Frank Gusi, former NCAA MVP Scottie Thompson, coach Jam Lipae, coach Joph Cleopas and coach Myk Saguiguit.
“The first step I will take is to meet the coaching staff like Coach Myk Saguiguit, Coach Joph Cleopas before we meet the players.’ Racela said.
“Our target is to start the training on Monday, 15 January. Since the players are now starting coming back from their vacation.”
With Perpetual missing out on the Final Four in Season 99 after finishing at fifth place with a 10-8 win-loss record, Racela is expected to turn the squad’s fortunes after leading the Tamaraws to the Final Four from 2017 to 2022.
Thompson, who played for the Altas from 2011 to 2015, is excited to work alongside Racela in his alma mater.
“It’s a new journey, what lies ahead for the next season for Coach Olsen and coach Myk combination. More to go for Perpetual. They still have something to look forward to,” Thompson said.
