By her own account, Alethea Page Gaccion played just her “average game” this week.
Yes, that level of sharpness that won for her Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines Mindanao Pueblo Open was just another day for the 16-year-old prize find.
After all, it was played right on the same course where she picked up the sport — Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club.
“This tournament meant so much to me specially because of the WAGR event,” she told the Tribune Golf referring to the points she earned from the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
“I played pretty average since it was my home course, but I felt really happy because most of my friends played and we had a lot of fun thanks to JGFP.”
Gaccion is honing her skills — and racking up victories in the process — so she can better shop for a school in the United States for college.
“For the rest of the year, I’m looking forward to hopefully be committing to a school abroad and play a lot of tournaments internationally so I can be exposed.”
But she knows very well she’s got a lot to learn.
“For my game I would really love to work on my mind and my attitude because it is really important to just keep my composure when I’m out in the fairway,” Gaccion added.
“Also work on my swing with my swing coaches and working out with my conditioning coach.”
For that, she would be needing far above average effort. And she’s working on it.
