The Philippine Sports Commission will prioritize financial backing for Paris Olympics-bound Filipino athletes when it sits down with national sports associations to discuss budget allocation.
“Those who qualified for the Olympics will be given full support. We prioritize those who have qualified,” PSC commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo said in a radio interview.
So far, the country has secured four slots in the Summer Games opening on 26 July.
Pole vaulter EJ Obiena, boxer Eumir Marcial, and gymnasts Carlos Yulo and Aleah Finnegan have all booked tickets to the French capital.
More athletes are expected to qualify for the Games with sports such as taekwondo, swimming and weightlifting announcing their results this year.
Local swimming and athletics bets are also working double time to reach their qualifying standards before their deadline on 23 and 30 June, respectively.
Coo said that the PSC will meet with different NSAs to discuss their budget.
“We will have one one-on-one meeting with the different NSA for their budget. They will have to submit their training pool and their youth training pool so that we can help them,” Coo said.
