Filipino junior golf star Monique Arroyo has decided to transfer to Scripps College which she said offers wider elbow room for her studies as well as her sport.

She spent a semester at Occidental College but the daughter of Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines “godfather,” and Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo said it was “not a fit” for her.

“I realized that I was not a fit for the college, I wanted to different experience,” she told Tribune Golf.

“I sought for a more challenging training schedule and a more demanding scholastic program.

The grand daughter of former President and now representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said she hopes to play even more golf for her new school which is ranked No. 6 in the United States.

“My family and I still preferred to be in California. So I was looking at the Claremont Colleges to transfer to, I have been talking to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps coach even prior to committing to Occidental back in 2022,” Monique said.

“My new school is Scripps College — among the top 5 women’s colleges and is part of the prestigious Claremont College Consortium which is composed of five undergraduate liberal arts college and two graduate schools.”

Scripps has an acceptance of 27 percent for the most previous admission cycle and 11 percent for transfers, making Monique’s move all the more remarkable.

“I am still, however, grateful for the experiences and lifelong friends I have made at Occidental that I will forever cherish,” she said.
