Teams from Japan and Korea are wooing former Ryukyu Golden Kings player Carl Tamayo after the Filipino dribbler announced his release from the Ryukyu Golden Kings, the player’s agent Charlie Dy said on Thursday.
Dy told DAILY TRIBUNE that other B.League teams and those from the Korean Basketball League have reached out to him, inquiring about the availability of the former University of the Philippines standout.
Dy also said their main priority is for Tamayo to land on a team that he can help win.
“Actually, there are clubs who messaged us if they can send offers. They messaged me that they are interested so if somebody sends an email, we will go over it and see if it is okay,’ said Dy, who is the chief executive officer of Virtual Playground.
“What we want for Carl is to grow as a player. He wants to help a team win like what he did in Adamson and National University in high school and UP in the seniors. Let’s see what team that is interested in him is the best for him.”
With Ryukyu, Tamayo averaged 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 23 B. League games.
He also played four games in the East Asian Super League with an average of 8.8 points and 4.1 rebounds as Ryukyu is currently in third place in Group B with a 2-3 win-loss record.
“As I bid farewell to the Ryukyu Golden Kings, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every fan who had been with me on this incredible journey. Your unwavering support has meant the world to me,” Tamayo said.
“Though my time with the team may be ending, your support will forever be etched in my heart. Thank you for making my time with the Ryukyu Golden Kings truly unforgettable.”
The 22-year-old cager is slated to come home to the Philippines next week before plotting his next move.
Dy said should the two-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines Mythical Team member decides to play in Japan again, he has to do it before 17 March.
“In Japan, the deadline to change players is on 17 March. If he will wait for the next season, it will be in August,” Dy said.
