Rianne Malixi, the country’s hottest junior golfer, finished with four birdies in the last six holes to salvage seventh place Friday in the Australian Amateur Championship at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Victoria.
Right after rough second and third rounds, the 16-year-old Malixi managed to end her campaign on a high note collecting five birdies against two bogeys for a closing 70 and one-over 293.
Shinchi Mamika of Japan ran away with the title after a 66 for a two-shot victory and a 10-under total of 282.
Malixi bookended her bogey on the 6th with birdies, finally mastering Yarra Yarra which gave her trouble the past two days with rounds of 78 and 75.
She opened with a 70 at Keysborough to jam the upper rungs of the standings after the first round.
It was still suitable follow up of her spectacular triumph in last week’s Australian Master of the Amateurs Championship last week.
