By the time he sets foot in Paris, Carlos Yulo hopes to have already fine-tuned his moves in the parallel bars, floor and vault.
While he is also putting premium in the all-around, Yulo’s pet events are the parallel, floor and vault.
“I’m practicing in the all-around but I’m focused on my three apparatuses: Parallel bars, floor and vault. I want my routines to be polished when we arrive in Paris,” Yulo said in a radio interview.
“I’m focused on the basics and quality. I had a low TScore on the floor but if the quality was good, maybe I could have a medal.”
So far, Yulo is one of four Filipino athletes who have earned berths to the Paris Games scheduled 26 July to 11 August. The others are fellow gymnast Aleah Finnegan, pole vaulter EJ Obiena and boxer Eumir Marcial.
All three are in the thick of preparations for Paris overseas.
Yulo, 23, gets the chance to hone his skills further when he vies in the FIG World Cup Series legs in Baku from 7 to 10 March and Doha from 17 to 20 April.
Also down the roads is the 2024 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in May as his final preparation for the Olympics.
The two-time world champion is currently training in the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines Gym in Intramuros along with Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Juancho Miguel Besana and John Ivan Cruz.
