University of the Philippines continues to fill its arms cache with weapons for future use after securing the commitment of Filipino-American Miguel Yniguez.
The Fighting Maroons’ recruitment trip bore fruit with the 6-foot-5 sharpshooting wing joining the fold to don UP colors next year in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 88 after serving a one-year residency.
“We’re looking forward to the contributions of Miguel to our team. We’ve long seen that he can be a big help for our team so it’s good that he’s now committed with us,” head coach Goldwin Monteverde, who recently signed a fresh five-year mandate, said.
Yniguez played for San Francisco State in the US NCAA Division II. He will have four seasons to play for UP.
Actually, Yniguez already suited up for the Maroons for one game during the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup in July.
The wingers transfer has been made official during the team’s US trip led by Monteverde and UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
Yniguez expressed excitement to play and help UP achieve glory in the future.
“I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines. To everyone who has helped me continue my journey, maraming-maraming salamat po!” he wrote in his social media post.
The Fighting Maroons finished runner-up for the second straight tournament last year.
UP last won the crown in Season 84 two years ago
