Filipino-American striker Sarina Bolden has been making a lot of heads turn as she has been nominated for the Golden Boot award in the A-League Women in Australia.
Bolden, who emerged as a football sensation after nailing a historic goal for the Philippines in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, scored seven goals in eight games to help the Newcastle Jets reach the top six to book a spot in the Finals Series.
The 27-year-old Bolden is currently tied at fourth place with Rachel Lowe of Melbourne Victory in the Golden Boot race.
Vesna Milivojevic and Michelle Heyman of Canberra United are leading the race with nine goals apiece.
Newcastle is coming off a 1-2 loss against Sydney FC last Sunday. Bolden delivered a goal in the 16th minute but her squad collapsed in the second half as Maddie Casper and Zara Jewel Kruger nailed their respective goals in the second half.
With that, the Jets fell to eighth place with a 5-2-5 win-draw-loss record for 20 points.
Newcastle last made it to the Finals Series in the 2017-2018 season in which it was beaten by Sydney FC in the semifinals.
