The Triton is what Mitsubishi’s pickup will now be called in the Philippines. The famous Japanese-made vehicle, previously known by the names L200 and Strada, is the sixth generation pickup and first model change in eight years for a pickup
At last week’s official unveiling held at Bridgetowne Destination Estate in Quezon City, guests were not only able to view the pickup displays up close, but were also given the chance to test drive the All-New Triton on-road and off-road.
Mitsubishi Motor Philippines prepared a separate off-road course for prospective buyers who want to experience the All-New Triton’s power and advanced off-roading capabilities.
As a special treat, the launch event included a one-of-a-kind rally experience with Hiroshi Masuoka, the two-time Dakar Rally champion (2002, 2003) and team director of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart. Masuoka offered exclusive thrilling taxi rides for customers while he negotiated the terrain meant to push the Triton to its limits while giving his guest passengers a fully immersive experience with the All-New Triton.
The 2024 Triton will be available in seven variants: two-wheel drive variants include the base GL (P1.134 million) that comes solely in manual transmission, the GLX that comes in both manual (P1.311 million) and automatic (P1.383 million), and the top-spec GLS (P1.582 million).
The four-wheel drive variants, on the other hand, include the GL 4WD MT (P1.157 million), the GLX 4WD MT (P1.561 million), and the flagship Athlete 4WD (P1.909 million) that only comes with an automatic transmission.
Across all seven variants, there are two engine options available. The top-of-the-line Athlete is equipped with a two-stage turbo diesel that generates 201 horsepower and 470 newton-meter of torque.
A 2-stage turbo diesel engine is the latest in turbocharging technology, enabling the engine to have a high boost pressure at the lowest engine speeds and to keep its performance at high speeds. The rest of the variants are equipped with a single-stage turbo diesel engine that generates 180 hp and 430 Nm of torque.
