Remogat leaves Red Warriors, joins Fighting Maroons

Shortly after losing prized recruit Jared Bahay to Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines acquired the services of Noy Remogat to boost its backcourt in preparation for Season 88 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament next year.

In a statement, Remogat said leaving University of the East to play for the Fighting Maroons wasn’t easy but it was something he needs to do for his family and personal growth as an athlete.

The 5-foot-10 Remogat was among the finest playmakers in Season 86 last year.

Although the Red Warriors fell short of advancing to the Final Four, he still piled 16.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 steals and a
league-leading 7.9 assists to emerge as part of the Mythical Team.

He will be joining a Fighting Maroons squad that is set to lose ace playmaker JD Cagulangan to graduation after the coming Season 87.

And with UP failing to secure the commitment of Cebu-based court general Bahay, having Remogat in its roster in Season 88 makes a lot of sense.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to UE for providing me with the opportunity to be where I am today. I will forever be indebted to all of you for the opportunity you gave in shaping my present and future,” Remogat said.

“But now it’s time for me to make a decision for what my family needs and where I can grow as an athlete. This decision is not easy, but it is a necessary step in my journey. After careful consideration with my family and loved ones, I believe the next step of my career is playing for the UP Fighting Maroons in Season 88-89.”

UP coach Goldwin Monteverde said with a heady playmaker like Remogat around, their backcourt rotation next year is already secured.

“We love the current guards that we have but, of course, we’re excited to have a player like Noy,” said Monteverde, who will have a high-powered backcourt rotation of Remogat, Janjan Felicilda, Gerry Abadiano, Harold Alarcon, Chico Briones and Terrence Fortea in Season 88.

“His arrival is such a major boost to our future.”

Remogat thanked Monteverde for trusting him, saying that having a coach like him can help him develop for the rest of his collegiate career.
