Shawn Umali will no longer be with Lyceum of the Philippines University when it sees action in Season 100 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
In a lengthy social media post, the 6-foot-3 forward expressed his gratitude to the Pirates for molding him into one of the strongest forces in the league.
The burly Umali had a breakout year in Season 99 for the Pirates, averaging 10.15 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 blocks. He led the Pirates to the second spot in the Final Four but couldn’t get the job done as they fell prey to eventual champion San Beda University in the semifinals.
Now, he is leaving Lyceum full of gratitude.
“From the moment I entered LPU, I have been welcomed with open arms and genuine warmth.
The support and encouragement from each one of you have made my journey here a memorable one,” Umali said in an Instagram post.
“Being a Pirate, one has taught me the value of teamwork, perseverance and resilience. As I reflect on my time at LPU, I am very much grateful for the opportunities, memories and friendships that have enriched my playing career and my life.”
Umali, who is currently playing for the CV Siniloan in the Pilipinas Super League, is said to be transferring to a different school. He still has two years of eligibility left.
“Wishing everyone continued success in our chosen path. Viva Pirata!”
