Alex Eala’s journey in the W50 Indore in India came to an end after a 4-6, 7-6, 2-6 loss to Russia’s Polina Kudermetova in the women’s singles semifinal last Saturday.
Eala, 18, fought for two hours and 28 minutes before her Russian foe prevailed, preventing her from taking a shot at the $40,000 prize.
Kudermetova is set to face Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia in the final and the hefty cash prize.
The Filipino tennis ace previously defeated Romania’s Anca Alexia Todoni, 7-5, 6-2, last Friday to set up a match with the second seed Kudermetova.
Despite a bitter exit, Eala ends her Indian stint with a trophy under her belt in two tournaments as she teamed up with Darja Semenistaja of Latvia to claim the W50 Pune women’s doubles crown, her first title in the professional scene, last January.
Now, the Middle East beckons the Rafael Nadal Academy graduate as she is set to in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open at the International Tennis Centre in Zayed Sports City in the United Arab Emirates.
