Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala took a dip in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings after two tournaments in India.
Eala, 18, slid from her career-high No. 184 to No. 187 after falling short in the W50 Pune and the W50 Indore women’s singles titles.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate lost in the quarterfinal of the W50 Pune to Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja of Latvia, 6-7, 0-6, last January while falling short to Polina Kudermetova of Russia, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, in the W50 Indore semifinal last Saturday.
She did, however, team up with Semenistaja to clinch the W50 Pune doubles crown after a 7-6, 6-3 win over Naiktha Bains of Great Britain and Hungary’s Fanny Stollar.
As of press time, Eala is going up against Magda Linette of Poland Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open at the International Tennis Centre in Zayed Sports City in the United Arab Emirates.
Linette is currently at No. 55 in the WTA rankings and is expected to be a challenge for Eala in the tournament that also has former Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka of Japan and British netter Emma Raducanu.
