Newly-minted Best Player of the Conference winner CJ Perez vows to come up with a much better showing for San Miguel Beer after an 85-96 loss to Magnolia in Game 4 of the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup finals last Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Perez, who scored 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, said he and the team will be making the necessary adjustments as the best-of-seven championship series has been reduced to a virtual best-of-three.
The former Lyceum of the Philippines University star added he also wants to tweak his defense after picking up four fouls in the first half.
“It’s my first BPC award and I thank you all. This is a big bonus for me and I dedicate this to my coaches, teammates and the fans who supported us,” Perez said.
“I just need to adjust. My defense isn’t really pesky.”
As the Beermen face the Hotshots again tonight at the Big Dome for Game 5 at 6:15 p.m., Perez said they need to address their anemic 8-of-37 shooting from the three-point line the last time.
“We’re tied at 2-2 so we have a lot to learn and adjust on our defense on Magnolia. We just need to rest and learn from our mistakes,” Perez said.
