National team mainstay Carl Corpus recently hacked out a share of second place in the 2024 Amer Ari Invitational at the Mauna Lani north course in Kohala Coast, Hawaii.
The 22-year-old Corpus, who comes from a family of golfers in Laoag City, exploded with an eight-under 64 on the final round to finish 18-under spanning the 54 holes in the NCAA Division 1 competition.
Playing for San Jose State, Corpus had rounds of 67, 67 and 64 to finish nine shots behind eventual champion Wenyi Ding of Arizona who fired a 10-under 62 for a 27-under total.
Corpus tied Finn Koelle of Washington following a 68 on the final round.
Youngest in a brood of three brothers, Corpus took up the sport on the prodding of his parents Charlie and Claire who are both lawyers and avid golfers.
He represented the country in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires where he wound up T16.
In Argentina, he finished 17 strokes behind gold medalist Karl Vilips of Australia.
