Reymart Gaballo will hold his training camp in the Philippines for the 12 May shot at Australian Jason Moloney’s World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown in Perth, Australia.
“Because there is no time difference (between Manila and Perth), Reymart will stay in the Philippines,” JC Mananquil, the fighter’s promoter, said two days after Gaballo knocked out Thailand’s Phai Phairob in just 32 seconds.
Moloney will be making the second defense of the WBO 118-lb strap that he won by beating Filipino Vincent Astrolabio last year in Stockton, California.
Last month, Moloney repulsed the challenge of Saul Sanchez of the United States in Quebec, Canada.
Mananquil said that holding camp in the Philippines will prevent Gaballo from having to get rid of jet lag assuming he decides to train in the United States.
There is a non-stop flight from Manila to Perth and the flight takes just a little over seven hours.
Gaballo has a 27-1 win-loss record with 22 knockouts while Moloney has a 27-2 card with 19 knockouts.
Their title clash will be on the undercard of the George Kambosos against Vasiliy Lomachenko duel for the vacant International Boxing Federation lightweight plum at the 15,000-capacity RAC Arena.
Sydney-born Kambosos, who is of Greek descent, used to serve as a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao.
