It’s the end of the road for Filipino gymnast John Ivan Cruz’s FIG Apparatus World Cup campaign after a disappointing finish in men’s floor exercise last Friday in Cottbus, Germany.
The Southeast Asian Games gold medalist landed at 18th overall in the 66-man field after collecting 13.866 points in his debut.
“Ivan didn’t do well in Cottbus. I will not let him continue anymore in this World Cup and he will go back to Manila,” Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion told DAILY TRIBUNE.
Tokyo Olympics champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel kept his tight grip on the lead with 14.900 points heading into the final round.
Another Filipino bet Levi Ruivivar did not fare any better after a 12th overall finish in the women’s uneven bars out of 57 athletes after scoring 13.333 points.
She, however, has a chance to bounce back in the balance beam and floor exercise along with Emma Malabuyo, who picked up a silver medal in the Cairo edition last week.
SEA Games gold medalist Juancho Miguel Besana is also slated to compete in the men’s vault in the tournament.
