Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala kept her fiery form to book a quarterfinal seat in the W75 Porto women’s singles Thursday night at the Complexo Desportivo do Monte Aventino in Portugal.
The 18-year-old netter repulsed eighth-seed Katarina Zavatska of Ukraine in a convincing, 6-0, 6-3, win over her world No. 171 foe.
Eala, who only needed one hour and 14 minutes to dispose of Zavatska, is battling second-seed Hungarian Anna Bondar for a spot in the semifinal.
Bondar is currently ranked at No. 120 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings.
Eala has yet to win a singles title this year.
In the women’s doubles, Eala and British partner Ali Collins suffered a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany and Alicia Barnett of Great Britain in the quarterfinal.
Eala last won a doubles crown a month ago when she and partner Darja Semenistaja of Latvia ruled the W50 Pune tournament in India.
