Filipino-American sprinter Lauren Hoffman will accompany hurdler John Cabang and pole vaulter EJ Obiena in Scotland for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow from 1 to 3 March.
Hoffman is the country’s latest entry in the prestigious tilt where she hopes to get a crack at clinching a seat in the Paris Olympics in July.
The 24-year-old dasher, who saw action in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, will come into the tournament beaming with confidence after setting a new national record.
She clocked 53.71 seconds in the 2024 Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in South Carolina to write a new national standard in women’s 400-meter event.
“Just when I thought my indoor season was done, God opened up another door. Next week I’ll be representing the Philippines at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland!” Hoffman posted on her social media page.
“Excited to represent the country I love and get after it one more time this season! Thank you @officialpatafa for the support!”
Hoffman will be the first to go into action with her heat set on 1 March.
Cabang, who also aims for a Summer Games ticket, will make his run on 2 March in the men’s 60m hurdles.
Paris-bound Obiena, on the other hand, targets a podium in his event scheduled 3 March.
