TOKYO, Japan — A rugged puncher from Thailand has been signed up to test the mettle of Paris Olympics-bound Eumir Marcial on 23 March at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Thiedsak Sinam, who packs a 23-13 win-loss card with 19 knockouts, will be the heavy-handed Filipino southpaw’s opponent as he braces for a rough and tough outing in the Olympics scheduled 26 July to 9 August.
The right-hander from Pathum Thani is coming off back-to-back knockout wins and is raring to ruin Marcial’s plans in their Manila encounter.
The slugfest is free to the public as a special offering of eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao and MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons.
Marcial is currently in the United States training under former US Olympic coach Kay Koroma.
Making the event extra-special is the attendance of World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman, who was invited by Pacquiao.
The WBC head is also gracing the Pacquiao-Elorde Awards the following day at the Okada.
Marcial, the lone boxer so far who has made the Olympic grade, will be fighting for the fifth time as a professional in his grand Manila debut.
He entered the punch-for-pay business in December 2020 in Los Angeles and fought his next three bouts in California, Nevada and Texas.
As an amateur, Marcial was a bronze medalist in the Tokyo Olympics, a silver medalist in the 2019 world championships and the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
