Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala seeks payback against Hungary’s Anna Bondar in the women’s singles of the W50 Trnava in Slovakia on Wednesday.
Eala, 18, faces her Hungarian foe in the Round of 32 and is set to be a challenge for the four-time title winner in pursuit of her next championship.
Bondar, No. 111 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings, defeated Eala, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, in the quarterfinal of the W75 Porto in Portugal last week.
She also went on to win the title of the tournament after a 7-6, 6-2 win over Germany’s Noma Akugue Noha in the final.
Despite this, the 18-year-old prodigy will be entering the court oozing with confidence as she recently reached No. 180 in the WTA rankings her highest in her career.
Eala’s latest singles title was back in August 2023 where she captured the W25 Roehampton in the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Eala is playing alongside Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez in the women’s doubles as they are facing China’s Qianhui Tang and Liang En-shuo of Chinese Taipei as of press time in the Round of 16.
So far, Eala has won one women’s doubles title under her belt after she teamed up with Darja Semenistaja of Latvia in the W50 Pune in India.
